Started in 2001 by Lost Dog Café owners Pam McAlwee and Ross Underwood, the Lost Dog & Cat Rescue Foundation (LDCRF) saves the lives of thousands of homeless animals each year and places them for adoption to loving homes. Dogs and cats are spayed or neutered prior to adoption, plus they receive appropriate vaccines and medical care. Some dogs and cats arrive with substantial medical needs like heartworm treatment, orthopedic surgery or extensive dental surgery. LDCRF provides the care required to restore a pet to health prior to adoption.
After 17 years of housing adoptable dogs and cats at the Lost Dog Ranch in Sumerduck, VA, LDCRF purchased a kennel facility in Falls Church, VA in the Fall of 2018. The new location, right in the heart of the DC Metro area, means LDCRF pets are able to interact with the community on a daily basis. Volunteers come to the facility to walk, socialize and help care for dogs and cats each day between 7 am and 7 pm, providing the human contact and bonding needed for companion animals to thrive. Community members are even allowed to take dogs out for a day or a few hours through our “Dogventures” program. Activities might include hiking, walking in a nearby park or visiting a dog-friendly winery or brewery.
LDCRF hosts adoption events each weekend at local pet supply stores.
